Haendel

Messiah

Program

Handel, a generous and entertaining character, loved to recount how he composed The Messiah in twenty-four days and in a second state: I don’t know if I was in myself or outside myself when I wrote it. God knows. » Created in 1742 in Dublin, his oratorio fell victim to a cult cabal in London the following year: too much joy, too much theatre! He gives a special place to the choirs, which express the collective fervour, the faith of the Christian community, and give impetus and movement to a score that takes here the Harmonic Chapel of Valentin Tournet. Alleluia!
