Double Bach

Programme

Between an improv pianist and a viola da gamba player specialized in the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, there is apparently not many common points…

This was without our love for the music of Johann-Sebastian Bach on one hand and the infinite possibilities of improvisation on the other!

From talks to encounters, from encounters to rehearsals, we dreamt, imagined, then chose the elements of a fertile and unattended dialogue between the 21th and the 18th century, between ancient instruments and today’s piano.

What an image, both and visual to see this great concert instrument varnished in black surrounded by an instrumentarium as surprising as diverse: cornetto, hunt oboe, sackbut, ancient bassoon, and the great family of viola da gamba (over upper viol part, upper viol part, tenor viola, bass viol).

This is how came to us the exciting idea of a kind of 3rd book to the Well-tempered clavier, alternating brilliant counterpoints from The Musical Offering and The Art of Fugue with improvised preludes and interludes, making each concert an exceptional event, always renewed.
